Broadband Investments Support Industry Growth in IT & Telecommunications
Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration today announced a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) award of $29,767,352 to increase broadband investment in Guam. The grant was awarded to GTA Teleguam from the USDA ReConnect Program, which funds the construction, improvement, or acquisition of facilities and equipment needed to provide broadband service in eligible rural areas throughout the U.S.
“This is great news for Guam and a significant step forward in our efforts to expand high speed internet access to underserved communities across our island,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “In addition to securing $12 million to enhance our broadband infrastructure earlier this year and $25 million in forthcoming broadband funds, our Administration continues to maximize each opportunity to increase internet service and boost access for all.”
“Residents, students, and businesses will benefit from this increased investment in developing Guam’s digital infrastructure,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “As part of our economic recovery, we are strengthening support for industry diversification with promising pathways in information technology and telecommunications. These initiatives will open up economic opportunities, create new jobs, and improve the quality of life for many on Guam.”
