“Though Bill 248 is now law, the island’s only public hospital will not see relief until October. And considering the General Fund’s current cash position, it will be difficult to get GMH the help it needs.  I thank all the senators who passed Bill 248. This law is historic – it is the first time in the hospital’s 40 years that it has a dedicated funding source. I know GMH and the people they serve will appreciate any additional help to bridge the gap until October.”

“In DOE’s case, there was an Army Corps of Engineers Study that noted a nearly $100 million in maintenance had been deferred. While Bill 248 helps DOE, that help begins at the start of the new fiscal year. The Speaker’s bill would allow for help to come sooner, in time for repairs during the summer.”
