INVITE: Improvements to Library Begin WEDNESDAY
Guam is Growing: Hagåtña Library to expand, improve

The Nieves M. Flores Memorial Library in HagÃ¥tña will add two new buildings to its current footprint, and renovate its existing building to improve the services it provides to families.  Staff from the Guam Public Library System say this will be their first expansion and improvement project on the branch in decades.

The renovations of the current building will provide a larger and quieter study area on both the 1st and 2nd Floor for patrons.  Contractors will also repair underlying issues with cracks and water leaks throughout the building.  The extension project will create a new children’s library and a new internet cafe.

The children’s library will allow for children and their parents to sing, play, and learn without disturbing other patrons within the current library.  It will also give GPLS an opportunity to expand its current children’s programs to help more kids learn the love of reading.  The internet café will allow for the public to access the internet wirelessly for free.  There will be space for patrons to  use their personal computers/devices while enjoying a beverage outside of the library settings.

These improvements and expansion are funded through a $1.5 million grant from the Department of the Interior.

The groundbreaking ceremony will will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nieves M. Flores Memorial Library in HagÃ¥tña.  For more information, please contact Frankie Aflague, Program Coordinator at 475-4753.
