At any given time, Guam can have more than 200 children under Child Protective Services. With less than 30 licensed foster families, there remains a great need for emergency shelter facilities to care for local foster children.
Today, First Lady Christine M.S. Calvo and the RigÃ¥lu Foundation are launching a new effort to build “The RigÃ¥lu House,” an emergency shelter to house Guam’s foster children. The first fundraising event for this initiative, the “12·12·12 Gift of Love Telethon,” already is drawing major support from local non-profit organizations, businesses and caring Guamanians who want to help.
The telethon will be broadcast live from the Cars Plus Showroom in Maite on KGTF Channel 12 from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on December 12, 2012. Raffle tickets for prizes including a brand new car and a getaway for two to Manila are currently on sale and can be purchased through the Rigålu Foundation.
