Hagåtña, Guam – Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio proudly joined the people of Merizo on Thursday to cut the ribbon on the newly constructed Merizo Gymnasium, marking the completion of a $1.2 million investment by the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio administration to enhance community spaces across the island.
“This gym belongs to the people of Merizo,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “We are honored to cut this ribbon alongside you because this is your gym, built for your families, your children, and your community. This project represents more than just an investment in infrastructure—it’s an investment in the future of Merizo.”
Constructed by Surface Solutions, the same contractor responsible for the Dededo Gym, which officially opened on Wednesday, the new Merizo Gym boasts a sturdy steel structure designed to support basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, complete with aluminum bleachers to accommodate spectators. Male and female restrooms are also provided for the convenience of gym-goers.
The $1,270,619 project was funded by the Department of Interior and awarded to Surface Solutions in April 2022.
“We are proud to deliver on our administration’s promise to create spaces where communities can come together, compete, and celebrate. Merizo now has a modern, safe, and welcoming facility where future champions and community bonds will be made,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio.
