Hagåtña, Guam – The public is advised of the following scheduled road closures and drone and fireworks shows to be observed on July 21, 2022, in celebration of Guam’s 78th Liberation Day. 

“As we commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Liberation of Guam, we urge our community to observe the holiday safely, keep alert on the parade route, and practice appropriate health measures,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “In honor of our war survivors, our troops, and the people of Guam, who have worked to liberate our island from the pandemic, we are proud to celebrate the return of our time-honored traditions and the legacy of our strong resilience.”

“As part of our celebration, we encourage families and friends to come out and enjoy the drone and fireworks shows this Thursday and Friday at Paseo and Ypao Beach, respectively,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “The festivities continue the next day with a special Fandanña Friday featuring food trucks and music performances, and several kid-friendly activities including rides, face painting, balloon animals, rock wall climbing, paddle boarding, and a dunk tank.”

Route 1 Road Closure

The portion of Route 1/Marine Corps Drive, from the Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex at Adelup to the intersection of Route 1 & 8 (before Padre Palomo Park), will be closed from 6:00 a.m. until the end of the Liberation Day parade. 

Drone and Fireworks Shows

8:30 p.m.| Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Paseo, Hagåtña

9:00 p.m. | Friday, July 22, 2022 at Ypao Beach, Tumon

Drone shows are approximately 8 to 10 minutes and fireworks shows are 15 minutes (Thursday) and 10 minutes (Friday).

11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022

Ypao Beach, Tumon

Shuttles to Ypao Beach are available starting at 10 a.m. from John F. Kennedy High School and the former Guam Greyhound Park in Tamuning. Security will be present on site.
