Hagåtña — This morning Department of Administration presented directors of the executive agencies with the process to implement furloughs.
Without a solution to address the federal tax cuts that is causing what the Legislature’s Office of Finance and Budget estimated to be a $67 million revenue shortfall, the government has to be prepared for drastic cost-cutting measures.
The Attorney General yesterday said such measures, even in light of a financial emergency, must be done through specific processes and timelines.
The Administration’s fiscal team has said every day there’s a delay in stabilizing the government’s finances, it makes it more difficult to continue paying salaries and continuing services.
Senators are expected to resume session at 10 a.m. today.
