Hagåtña — After weeks of meetings in Special Economic Services, Committees of the Whole, and public hearings, and sharing hundreds of pages of data and information provided, Senators are still without a solution.

Worst yet, more time has been spent grilling agency heads rather than passing a bill to stabilize the Government of Guam so we can prevent payless paydays or even a government shutdown.

Sen. Mike San Nicolas asked questions and requested information that had been answered and provided during his week-long absence.

Sen. Joe San Agustin captured the state of affairs at the legislature clearly with his statement: “We’re not getting anywhere.”

We have been very clear that only the Legislature has the authority to solve this financial crisis. We also have been very clear that everyday we wait, means more drastic measures are needed or else we will have payless paydays, furloughs and even a government shutdown.

If need be, then senators need to MEET EVERYDAY until they ADOPT A SOLUTION to the fiscal crisis.

“Senators are policy makers. They are tasked with the enormous responsibility of prioritizing the government’s budget. And yet they HAVE NOT PASSED ANY BILLS these past couple of months even after hundreds of hours spent in meeting and debate,” said Oyaol Ngirairikl, the Governor’s Communications Director.
