Governor Eddie Baza Calvo is asking U.S. Customs and Border Protection to solve its long lines at Immigration before the upcoming Festival of Pacific Arts. In a letter to Customs’ Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske, the Governor asks for additional officer support during FestPac, noting the over 13,000 visitors from 27 Pacific island nations that are expected to attend.

“Some of our visitors are waiting longer than 90 minutes,” the Governor stated. “Delays will be even longer when FestPac participants arrive if USCBP doesn’t fix the problem.”

The Governor also is asking for some of the additional officers to remain on staff after FestPac.

“FestPac will be a one-time thing for Immigration. It’s critical that we solve the current problem of tourists waiting in long lines every day at the Airport when they arrive,” Governor Calvo said.
