Governor Eddie Baza Calvo has directed the new Washington D.C. Office Director Margaret Metcalfe to work with Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo on the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates.

“This has been an issue we’ve been working on for years and we had a recent success with getting the reimbursement for 2007 and 2008, and we have to push forward with 2009 to 2012,” Governor Calvo stated. “We’re having some challenges in this area, so I have called for Margaret in our Washington D.C. Office, to work with the Congresswoman and submit a request to the Government Accountability Office and have them review the situation.”

The Governor sent a letter to the Congresswoman requesting her attention and assistance.

“If HHS issues a favorable decision for GMHA, Guam could receive $16 million for the hospital in the near term,” the Governor wrote to Congresswoman Bordallo. “These funds would greatly help GMHA, and subsequently the people of Guam and those in the region who rely on GMHA.”

D.C. Office Director Metcalfe looks forward to working with Congresswoman Bordallo on this and other issues that impact the people of Guam.

“I think that working together with a focus on improving the lives of our people and strengthening policies that ensure we are treated equally,” Director Metcalfe said.
