The Governor received a call from President Trump who shared his assurance that the White House is closely watching North Korea.

“I just wanted to pay my respects,” President Donald Trump stated at the start of the call. “We are with you 1000 percent, you are safe.”

Governor Calvo first received a call from the Chief of Staff General John Kelly who told the Governor that the White House is tracking the North Korea threats against Guam and the more than 160,000 Americans living here.

“We are all over this,” General Kelly said, adding that the President sends his assurance that “the wonderful island of Guam is very well protected.”

A few moments later, the White House called again saying the President wanted to talk to the Governor.

“As the Governor of Guam representing the people of Guam, and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or so confident with you at the helm,” Governor Calvo told President Trump. “With all the criticism going on over the there, from the guy that’s being targeted, we need a President like you. I’m just so thankful, and I’m glad you’re holding the helm.”

“We’re going to do a great job don’t worry about a thing. They should have had me 8 years ago, or somebody with my thought process. But you’re going to be taken care of,” President Trump stated.

Governor Calvo notes that this is not the first time North Korea had threatened Guam. And he appreciates a President with a clear and strong message that Americans, whether in Guam, California or New York are protected.

“As the head of the Government of Guam I appreciate their reassurances that my family, my friends and everyone on this island are all safe,” Governor Calvo later stated. “As the governor of territory that is being threatened, my wish is that this bitter partisanship we’re seeing in Washington D.C. come to an end. Our nation is being threatened and it is time for us to come together, standing behind our flag and our President.”
