(Hagåtña) – Today, Senator Tommy Morrison questioned the intent of Speaker Benjamin F. Cruz’s amendment to remove a dedicated funding source from the Guam Memorial Hospital which leaves the hospital crisis in place.

Despite months of pleas from doctors, nurses, and GMH employees — the Speaker’s actions leave GMH with no dedicated funding source. And this isn’t the first time. He did this last year, when he refused to hold a public hearing to modernize and fully fund GMH.

“I have seen more Doctors and Nurses at the Legislature the past year than I’ve seen at the hospital. They shouldn’t be here appealing for support, they should be treating patients. They are not asking us to help themselves, they are asking us to help their patients,” Morrison said.

Cruz acknowledged that GMH problems were there when he started public service in 1977, yet he continues to move decisions that remove funding from GMH.

Despite this being his last year in office, the Speaker’s commitment to Guam’s only public hospital is not there.

Governor Calvo thanks Senator Morrison for his continued commitment to the Guam Memorial Hospital.
