My dear people of Guam,
In a few weeks, we celebrate the liberation of our people from the bondage endured during World War II. To ensure the stories of those who suffered are never forgotten, the Senator Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum and Chamorro Educational Facility has a special exhibit.
In Hahasso Ha’: Narratives of World War II History and Memory in Guam is the title of this exhibit. It includes stories, photographs and even the music that our parents and grandparents sang during the occupation of Guam.
This exhibit honors those who survived the war, it celebrates the lives of those who fought for freedom, and it reminds us that peace is something we must cling to. We know the cost of war. This is a lesson we on Guam understand more intimately compared to any state or territory. This is a lesson we must share with a world that seems to be on fire.
I encourage all of our Chamorro people, all of our Guamanians to visit the museum this summer, and to share these stories so that those who died, those who suffered, will not have done so in vain.
Biba Guam! Biba Liberation!
