TROPICAL STORM 09W UPDATE: Gov. Eddie Calvo places the island in COR1

8 p.m. — Gov. Eddie Calvo has placed the island in Condition of Readiness 1. Tropical
Storm 09W is expected to make its closest point of approach early tomorrow morning. Maximum sustained winds remain at 40 mph. The tropical storm is moving west-northwest swiftly at about 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
 
Military installations
At 8 p.m., July 11, the Main Gate for Andersen Air Force Base will be closed to all nonessential and nonemergency personnel. There will be no gate closures for Naval Base Guam or Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam. At Naval Hospital Guam, the main gate will close at 8 p.m. and the construction gate will provide access to the hospital. Signs directing
traffic at the main gate will provide directions for traffic. Restricted access to all gates will remain in effect until further notice. If anyone is unsure of their status, please contact your immediate supervisor.
 
What does COR1 mean?
At this point, we need everyone to stay off the streets and in their homes unless it’s an emergency. Residents also should note:
– Damaging winds are occurring or expected within 12 hours.
– Only mission-essential personnel and vehicles are allowed outdoors.
– Tune in to radio and/or television for updates on the weather.
