Malesso’, Humåtak Projects Completed; Inalåhan & Talo’fo’fo up next

Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio today announced the progress of the Department of Public Works’ “Safer Streets” initiative, which is improving road conditions and enhancing safety for motorists across the island. DPW recently completed pavement resurfacing in the southern village of Malesso, covering approximately 2.5 lane miles along Route 4 of Seven Heroes of Malesso Highway. Additionally, about half a lane mile of village streets in Humåtak were repaired and resurfaced.

Looking ahead, DPW has scheduled resurfacing for five lane miles in the villages of Inalåhan and Talo’fo’fo in the coming months.

Other roadway safety improvements recently completed include:

  • Restriping and installation of raised pavement markers along Marine Corps Drive, from Alupang Towers in Tamuning to the entrance of the Port Authority of Guam in Piti.
  • Full and partial depth pavement repairs and striping along Routes 8, 14A, 30A, and 2A.
  • Continued restriping along Marine Corps Drive from Route 27 near the Micronesia Mall in Dededo to the Andersen Air Force Base front gate in Yigo.

“Our administration remains focused on building safer, stronger communities. These road improvements not only make daily commutes smoother, but they also save lives by enhancing safety for drivers and pedestrians. I commend the hardworking men and women at DPW for pushing this important initiative forward,” said Governor Leon Guerrero.

Lt. Governor Tenorio added, “Mile by mile, our administration is making progress with maintaining and repairing our roads. Filling potholes, replacing old asphalt, and even painting new lane markers make things safer for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike. Yes, these projects can come with traffic delays, but we thank the public for their patience as DPW continues this important work.”

DPW Director Vince Arriola expressed his gratitude for the community’s cooperation, noting that the department is committed to keeping Guam’s roadways reliable, safe, and accessible for all residents and visitors.

The administration encourages the community to drive safely through work zones and remain patient as improvements continue.
