Early Filers for Tax Year 2022 Comprise 90%
Hagåtña, Guam – On February 17, 2023, the Department of Revenue & Taxation (DRT) processed and the Department of Administration mailed checks, or paid by direct deposit 3,288 Individual Tax refund payments totaling $10,321,731, for Tax Year 2022 and prior error-free returns filed on or before January 31, 2023. Refunds continue to be paid weekly and as promptly as returns are processed, with a turnaround time of one to three weeks of filing.
“Improving how the government works for the people has demanded tireless fiscal discipline and an abidance to the mindset that taxpayers should receive their refund payments in weeks, not months,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Because we right-sized government finances and eliminated the deficit, early filers for Tax Year 2022 comprise over 90% of this week’s payments. This is the efficient caliber we’ve worked hard to achieve and certainly the new standard of responsible fiscal administration.”
“This is the fastest turnaround for early tax filers in Guam’s history,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “Not only is it a sign of good governance, but also a harbinger of what is possible with good fiscal health. As the economy improves and investments islandwide become realized, we will continue to see the government work better to serve the people. Thanks to the boots on the ground workers at DRT, DOA, and government-wide, we can expect to keep this posture.”
NOTE: Individuals receiving payment by direct deposit will see a $0 transaction in their bank account prior to receiving their refunds.
