PROCLAIMING A STATE OF MOURNING

IN HONOR OF THE LATE

DEAN DANIEL SANCHEZ

WHEREAS, the people of Guam mourn the passing of Dean Sanchez, a public servant who led the southern village of Umatac as its mayor.
Mayor Sanchez had a passion for service and education. Education is an important foundation for progress and development. He advocated for Guamanians to go to school, do well in their studies, and turn their experiences and education into careers.
He worked tirelessly as the Mayor of Umatac to bring change to families in the village. Whether they were Guamanians living with disabilities, families who fell on hard times, or anyone who needed a helping hand, Mayor Sanchez led a group of public servants to ensure every resident of Umatac was helped.
It is through the compassion and leadership of Chamorros like Dean Sanchez that Guam and her people continue to thrive. We are indebted to this faithful public servant whose memory will live on in his legacy of service.
NOW, THEREFORE, IEDDIE BAZA CALVO, I Maga’LÃ¥hen GuÃ¥han, Governor of Guam, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Organic Act of Guam, as amended, do hereby proclaim the island of Guam in a State of Mourning in honor of the late Dean Sanchez, a beloved Mayor of Umatac. I order all flags to be flown at half staff in his honor until the day of his interment. On behalf of a grateful people, I extend my heartfelt condolences to all of the Sanchez family and pray for God’s guidance and blessings during this difficult time.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby set my hand and cause the Great Seal of Guam to be affixed in the Capital City of HagÃ¥tña, on this Fourteenth day of January, in the Year of Our Lord, Anno Domini, Two Thousand Thirteen.
