Calvo & GCC President Discuss Current, Proposed Expansion
Tours Continue with Community College

The future for Guam Community College was the topic of discussion between Governor Eddie Baza Calvo and GCC President Mary Okada this afternoon. A site tour was conducted today as part of Governor Calvo’s tours of government agencies and departments. The two leaders discussed career/technical education for high school students, federal grants, cash management, current renovation projects, and proposed expansion projects.
“It is awe-inspiring to see the number of programs and classes offered for high school students, adults, and professionals alike,” Governor Calvo said. “GCC is definitely setting the bar high when it comes to making the most of the resources it has. I want to congratulate all the administration, faculty, and staff for their fine work.”
Administration officials toured classrooms that teach professional and technical skills, like cosmetology, AutoCAD, and visual communications. Governor Calvo was also able to walk through the brand-new Learning Resource Center, the government’s first LEED certified building. The internationally-recognized designation is developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, and is only given to projects that abide by its high environmental benchmarks and standards.
