Joanne Brown recognized at last DPW event

Over the past couple of years, major road improvement projects have signaled the modernization of our streets with safer roads, sidewalks, signs, and bridges. This morning yet another major traffic artery is completely improved.
The Department of Public Works held a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning to officially open Route 7A. Construction began on the thoroughfare on September 2011.
Route 7A is a major connecting Mongmong-Toto-Maite to Hagåtña by the Agana Shopping Center and Agana Swimming Pool. Where there were once potholes and blemishes, there is now smooth pavement for safe driving on a road that went years without repair.
The project cost $5.8M and is fully-funded by the Federal Highway Administration. The contractor was Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company. AECOM and Lyon Associates were the construction management team.
“The work we’re celebrating today is a testament to DPW and their partners’ commitment to stellar, high-quality service,” said Governor Calvo. “I have so much confidence in this agency and their ability to continuously improve the quality of life for Guamanians.”
It was a bittersweet ceremony for the employees of DPW who were joined by their former director, Joanne Brown, who started this project – and until her appointment as acting General Manager of the port — saw it to completion. Governor Calvo applauded her work in the agency, stating he’d been to more ribbon cuttings in the past two years from just one agency than any other. He attributed the work to Brown’s leadership and dedication.
Brown thanked the Governor for his confidence in her and thanked the staff and management at DPW for their support and hard work. “The agency won’t change; they’ll continue to work hard and provide the same top-notch service to the people of Guam.”
