FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 6, 2012

More than $4 million dollars in Compact Impact funding will go toward medical equipment, supplies, pharmaceuticals and vendor payments for the Guam Memorial Hospital.

Department of Interior Office of Insular Areas Assistant Secretary, Tony Babauta, wrote to Governor Eddie Calvo last month approving the use of the grant money.

“We are extremely grateful for the assistance,” says GMH Administrator Rey Vega. “Even though we are hurting financially, we are doing the best we can with what we have. The infusion of these funds will really help the hospital, and we are so appreciative of the assistance from the Governor’s Office and the Interior Department.

The money is provided through FY 2012 Compact Impact funds and was requested by the Office of the Governor to balance the costs of providing services to FAS citizens at GMH.

“This is great news for the hospital and the people of Guam,” said Governor Eddie Baza Calvo. “All of our agencies are doing their best with the funds they have, and having this funding approved will help improve hospital services for all residents.”
