Calvos begin D.C. trip with visits to war memorials

(Washington, D.C.) — As a sign of respect and love for the men and women who paid the ultimate price to defend our island and country, Governor Eddie Baza Calvo and First Lady Christine M.S. Calvo made sure their first visit in the nation’s capital was to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the National World War II Memorial.
“I have always had the utmost respect for our men and women in the military. Many of my friends and family are serving in the armed forces. In my opinion, our people have demonstrated time and again that they are the most patriotic people in the nation,” Governor Calvo said. “Christine and I went to these memorials to remember all those Guamanians who suffered and died as a result of this patriotism. We will be forever grateful to those who came before us, and to those who are bravely serving as we speak.”
At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, the Governor and First Lady paused to pray when passing the name of a Guamanian at the wall. They also laid flowers and prayed again at Guam’s portion of the National World War II Memorial.
“Eddie and I keep our heroes, past and present, in our hearts and minds,” First Lady Calvo said. “We pray for the souls of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our island and country, and we pray for our men and women in uniform who are risking their lives to protect our freedom.”
