Hagåtña, Guam – The Governor’s School Opening Readiness Team (SORT) supports another school passing its public health inspection. Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) completed its inspection of H.B. Price Elementary School in Mangilao. Working alongside the Guam Department of Education, the Governor’s SORT addressed carpentry needs in the school bathrooms and cafeterias, replaced window screens to ensure vector control, cleared vegetation throughout the campus and fenceline, addressed plumbing repairs and electrical work in bathrooms and classrooms, and assisted with runoff mitigation rain catchment vegetation.
“Our schools are clearly in need of repair, and while we are making incredible progress to bring these campuses up to standard, these improvements may not hold throughout the entire year. Our administration strongly advocates that the Department of Education needs dedicated, year-round facilities and maintenance staff at each school to address ongoing maintenance demands,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio added, “While we celebrate the progress we’ve made, we must recognize that as we near the end of our immediate efforts, some of the most difficult and time-consuming repairs remain. It is critical that the Department of Education is equipped with the tools and resources to sustain the progress we’ve made together. Ensuring that our schools are maintained year-round is essential, and we must continue to prioritize long-term solutions to keep our facilities safe and functional for our students and staff.”
Governor’s SORT assigned to H.B. Price Elementary School included the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Corrections, and the Department of Youth Affairs. These agencies worked alongside GDOE and various community and military partners.
