Hagåtña, Guam – On Friday, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio proudly cut the ribbon on the new Barrigada Gymnasium, marking another milestone in the administration’s historic investment in community spaces. Funded by the Department of the Interior, this state-of-the-art facility sits at the heart of Barrigada, adjacent to the village church, playground, and Mayor’s Office. The ribbon cutting ceremony turned into a joyous celebration for the Barrigada Crusaders, as the village’s beloved teams quickly took to the court to showcase their skills.
“This gym represents more than just a place for sports—it’s an investment in our families and our community,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “We will continue working with each of our mayors to improve and enhance their village assets. Today, we congratulate Mayor June Blas and Vice Mayor Jesse Bautista for their dedication to Barrigada, but most importantly, we celebrate the residents of Barrigada who will enjoy this beautiful new space.”
“From the southern villages of Merizo to the bustling community of Dededo, we’re working to ensure every corner of our island has safe and modern spaces for recreation and connection. Barrigada’s gym is one of many projects making this vision a reality,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “The new Barrigada Gymnasium symbolizes our administration’s belief that investments in community spaces strengthen the island’s sense of unity and improve opportunities for youth and families.”
The $1.2 million open-air gymnasium was constructed by Mega United.
Late last year, the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration unveiled gyms in Merizo and Dededo, and in just a few weeks, ribbon cuttings for a new gym in Mangilao and a renovated Tamuning gym will take place. Additionally, other villages are celebrating renovated playgrounds, further reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fostering vibrant communities.
