Hagåtña – Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio today celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Dededo gym, marking another milestone in the administration’s efforts to revitalize Guam’s athletic and community spaces. The refurbished gym adds to the growing inventory of facilities across the island that have been renovated under the leadership of Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Tenorio, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages. The gym will serve as a hub for local sporting events, cultural gatherings, and community programs, bringing people of all ages together in unity and wellness.
“We are committed to investing in our community spaces, providing our families and youth with safe, modern, and accessible places where they can gather, exercise, and engage in activities that promote health and wellness,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “The new Dededo gym is at the heart of one of our island’s most populated villages and is a symbol of our broader efforts to revitalize infrastructure and create environments where our residents can thrive. We will continue to improve our public spaces, ensuring that all communities, from the north to the south, have access to modern amenities that support an active and engaged lifestyle.”
The Dededo Gym is a new steel gymnasium with retractable basketball backboards, dual operation electric and manual hanging basketball detachable board hanging supports, heavy duty spring assist rims, netting, electronic scoreboards, and aluminum bleachers. The facility is supported by a lighting system that meets FIBA illumination standards and male and female restrooms. The $1,067,584 project was funded by the Department of Interior and awarded to Surface Solutions in April 2022.
