A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the Agafa Gumas Recreational Facilities Rehabilitation project. The upgraded and expanded facilities will serve the hundreds of families that call Agafa Gumas home.

“Facilities like these help strengthen our village and our communities,” the Governor said. “I look forward to seeing families and friends get together and enjoy what the community has to offer.”

The project brings a new mini skate park to the Agafa Gumas community, with the existing basketball court also receiving upgrades. Other improvements include the installation of new lights and the construction of restroom facilities, a mini-pavilion, and a perimeter fence.

The project was funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant through the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority.

GHURA has funded other improvements to village recreation facilities through the grant. Earlier this year, the Sinajana community celebrated the completion of its recreational facilities project, which included a new open-air gymnasium, expansion to the parking lot, fencing repairs, renovations to the baseball field, and improvements to the children’s park and playground. In April, Dededo also celebrated the completion of its recreational facilities rehabilitation project, which included a new basketball court and walking trail for the Astumbo community.
