“We’re providing more options to Medicaid patients and their doctors for medical care that isn’t available here. This is a promise that Ray and I made, and we’re very proud that it’s happening. This is going to go a long way in helping the less fortunate, and helping to win the fight against poverty.” — Governor Eddie Baza Calvo

Amendment Approved:
Residents on Medicaid now have more options for medical care not available on Guam, and too expensive elsewhere.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved the Guam Medicaid Program State Plan Amendment to provide Medicaid services outside of the United States to eligible individuals. The conditions under which these services may be covered are:
·      Emergency or medically necessary services that are not available on Guam;
·      The out-of-country provider must be the nearest source of care;
·      Foreign providers must be certified by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO);
·      Foreign providers must have a signed agreement with the Medicaid agency.
