FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 22, 2012

Governor Calvo congratulates cabinet member James Gillan on his recent election to serve on the Board of Directors for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.

“Jim is an outstanding manager.  I’m not surprised that he would receive this kind of recognition,” Governor Calvo said. “He knows the problem areas in our community, he understands the issues and he knows how to get things done.”

The national non-profit organization is comprised of public health leaders throughout the U.S. and its territories who work together to support the collective missions of state-based public health organizations.

Police Chief

Governor Calvo also congratulates Chief of Police Fred Bordallo, who has been selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security. His selection will be a first for Guam because the program has not admitted a Chamorro or a local government official.

“The Guam Police Department has seen numerous improvements under the direction of Chief Bordallo,” said Governor Calvo. “He has done great work to enhance the services of the police department and with this educational opportunity, he has every opportunity to grow and further improve the services of the police department.”

This graduate program is extremely competitive, and is afforded only to local, state, federal and military officials within the law enforcement and homeland security communities nationwide. The Master’s program is an online, distance education program.
