Architects, engineers and land surveyors recognized for contributions to building Guam

Governor Eddie Baza Calvo is leading the community in the celebration of the University of Guam’s 60years of paving the way for higher learning in the western Pacific region.
“Education is our first line of defense against poverty. From giving students the opportunity for rewarding careers to the research that provides direction to make our community stronger, UOG and the Tritons are helping to set the pace for a stronger future,” Governor Calvo said. “It’s the premier University in the region and it’s the foundation of knowledge for so many of the leaders and professionals who make Guam what it is today.”
UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood, the Board of Regents, administration, faculty, staff and students joined Governor Calvo at Adelup this morning to proclaim March 13, 2012 in honor of the institution’s 44th Charter Day and Charter Week Ceremonies set for March 11 through 17, 2012.
Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors Honored, Andrew Laguana Recognized as First Chamorro to Become a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects
Governor Calvo also signed a proclamation in recognition of Guam’s architecture, engineering and land surveying industries. February 20 through 25, 2012 has been declared “Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors Week.”
“I’m really optimistic about the things that are going to be happening in this community, especially with the military buildup. I expect that you all will be very busy people in the coming days,” Governor Calvo told members of Guam’s architectural, engineering and land surveying industries.
The Guam Society of Professional Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers – Guam Post, the Guam Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Guam Society of Professional Land Surveyors met with Governor Calvo at Adelup today for a proclamation signing ceremony.
Governor Calvo is always excited to share good news and highlight the good things going on in the government and throughout the community. Honored today was Mr. Andrew Laguana who was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He is the first Chamorro to garner such a recognition from this prestigious organization.
Members of Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, ServeGuam! Commission and PEACE Council Officially Sworn In
The new members of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, the ServeGuam! Commission and the PEACE Council received their oaths of office in the Cabinet Conference Room at Adelup today. Governor Calvo administered the oath and thanked these individuals for their time, commitment and service to the community.
“Our community is so much stronger because of the every day individuals who truly want to make a difference. You have careers, families and other priorities but you still take the time and effort to give back to Guam,” Governor Calvo said. “Thank you for you all you do. Our mission to build for the future will go even further because of you.”
Ancestral Lands Returned to Estate of Antonio Mafnas Quitugua
In addition, as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve government services, Governor Calvo also pressed forward with the return of ancestral lands. Yesterday, a Quitclaim deed was signed returning 320 acres in the Radio Barrigada area back to the family of Antonio Mafnas Quitugua.

“Swearing In” — Governor Calvo thanked the new members of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, the ServeGuam! Commission and the PEACE Council after receiving their oaths of office in the Cabinet Conference Room at Adelup today.
“Deed” — Governor Calvo is joined by the family of the late Antonio Mafnas Quitugua after a deed signing ceremony held at Adelup. About 320 acres of ancestral lands were returned to the family through the Ancestral Lands Commission.
