January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and Guam’s Catholic Daughters of the Americas Celebrate Their 40th Anniversary on January 19

(Adelup, Guam) The Governor proclaimed the month of January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Members of the Guam Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Program and Coalition, Guam Immunization Program, GUAHAN Project, Guam Office of Minority Health, Guam Medical Association, and other community members will be working fervently this month to raise awareness of the simple steps that can prevent cervical cancer.
Annie Lizama, Communicable Disease Coordinator of the Guam Immunization Program explained, “Cervical cancer is highly preventable. The Guam Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program can provide information about free Pap screening tests, call 735-0671/72. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the main cause of cervical cancer. The Guam Immunization Program can provide information about free HPV vaccines; call 735-7143 or 734-1340.”
Following the cervical cancer proclamation, the Governor declared January 19, 2012 to be Guam’s Catholic Daughters of the Americas Day. This special day will be set aside to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Our Lady of Camarin Court No. 2047.
Governor Calvo said, “It is my honor to celebrate the achievements of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Our Lady of Camarin Court No, 2047. I encourage all of Guam’s faithful to recognize these inspirational women and to share in their mission of service and sacrifice.”
