FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 14, 2016

HagÃ¥tña, GU — The Office of the Lieutenant Governor in partnership with The Works! Foundation and the Guam Air National Guard shipped off 75 care packages to service members from the 254th Red Horse Squadron and the 254th Force Support Squadron of the Guam Air National Guard. The service members were deployed to Southwest Asia in late 2015.

“This shipment would not have been possible without the generosity of our community! We thank you all for donating to this worthwhile cause,” said Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio. “We are so happy to be able to send a piece of home to those service members who are away from their families.”

The care packages included donations from public school students, corporate partners and individuals, and were put together over the last few weeks. They were shipped on Thursday. Service members will receive “I Love Guam” stickers from Archway, Inc.; cookies and chocolates from Coco-Jo’s Cookies; local greeting cards from Zories Only, Banana Boat sun block and Tillamook beef jerky from Suncare Distributors; and Spam luncheon meat from Dickerson & Quinn International Distributors, among other items.

Students from Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School and Astumbo Elementary School donated various snack and food items for the care packages such as instant ramen noodles, peanuts, granola bars, chips, individual cereal boxes, cans of Vienna sausage, and rice crackers. Because the Guardsmen were overseas during the holidays, the students also decorated the care packages’ shipping boxes to add some holiday flair.

Lt. Governor Tenorio established Project Minagof in 2011. Through this project, care packages are sent to deployed local service members throughout the world. To date, Project Minagof has touched the lives of more than 1,000 of our brothers and sisters in uniform.
