The Southern High School Community will soon be able to utilize its gymnasium, which has been in a state of disrepair for years now. This morning, Acting Governor Ray Tenorio signed off on the $2.9 million contract to fix the campus gym.

When the Governor and I tour the south, the question of Southern High’s gym always comes up,” Acting Governor Tenorio said. “This money has been ready to be spent for two years; now I’m happy it’s being put to good use. Our students deserve a complete education. This contract, along with the one Governor Calvo signed to renovate Southern High School’s fine arts auditorium will go a long way to giving these students the education they deserve.”

A signing ceremony was held this morning to announce the upcoming project. Senator Chris Duenas attended. The lawmaker has been pushing Guam Department of Education to spend the money that is funding this project. Senator Sam Mabini, who is a strong advocate for a well-rounded public education also was present. Mayors Carol Tayama (Agat), Franklin Taitague (Inarajan), and Dale Alvarez (Santa Rita) also attended, and expressed their support of the administration’s efforts to improve education in southern Guam.
