Hagåtña, Guam – The Islandwide Beautification Task Force (IBTF) in collaboration with the Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (GSYEP) and United Airlines collected a total of 5,980 pounds of trash during the #GUAM 78th Liberation Islandwide Beautification Cleanup on July 16, 2022. The event also was supported by Guahan Waste Control Inc. and the Guam Department of Public Works.

“As we prepare to celebrate our 78th Liberation Day, we are proud of our community’s unified efforts to engage in the work of beautification all across our island, and we particularly celebrate the leadership contributions of our youth employees,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Three tons of trash was removed from our roads thanks to the dedication of over 1,000 volunteers, who also collected white goods, loose metals, and tires. We appreciate their spirit of collaboration and strong commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Guam.”

“The youth of Guam demonstrated that when given the opportunity, they are perfectly capable of contributing value to islandwide initiatives and leading our community to action,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “We recognize all the IBTF youth employees who carefully planned and coordinated these successful cleanups, and we thank all those who showed up ready to give back to our island through hands-on service.”

The event was spearheaded by IBTF summer youth employees Ayden Aguon, EllaMarie Cepeda, Keedyn Cepeda, Caitlyn Cruz, Antonio Duenas, Ashton Manglona, Sophia Quichocho, Ava Taitano, and Gabriella Tesoro, with support from the Guam State Clearinghouse.
