Pagat Village to Remain Untouched, Federal Footprint to Shrink

The military will not take Pagat village for their firing range. By the end of the military buildup, the federal government will occupy less land than it has today.
These unprecedented concessions were made this morning to the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor by Under Secretary of the Navy Robert Work. These two issues represented the most contentious and controversial debates regarding the buildup.
Formal discussions on the military buildup began today between Governor Eddie Baza Calvo, Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio and the Defense Department. Under Secretary Work was joined by Assistant Secretary of the Navy Jackalyne Pfannenstiel in the discussion in the Governor’s Chambers.
“These discussions are off to a good start,” Governor Calvo said. “At the end of the day, what we all want is to improve the quality of life for all our people. I want to thank the Navy and the Defense Department for their partnership. We’re finally at the table. We’re finally leading this buildup.”
