PROCLAMATION NO. 2013-21
PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MARCH 11 THROUGH MARCH 16, 2013
in Celebration of
GUAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
“Celebrating our Learning Communities”
Whereas, The United States was founded on the idea that everyone should have access to an education. Guam’s public schools are a cornerstone of our society, perpetuating the shared values of this island community for all of our children. Public schools are filled with our future. The children attending public schools will be Guam’s workforce and leaders.
The Department of Education promotes excellence in teaching by providing ongoing professional learning and embracing high standards for accountability. The Guam Department of Education, a single unified school district consisting of grades Kindergarten through twelve, serves over 30,000 students in twenty-seven elementary schools, eight middle schools, and five high schools, and one alternative school.
Our children are our future. Extensive parent and community involvement contributes significantly to the improvement of each public school and Public Schools Week will encourage collaborative relationships between public school employees and families; as well as, remind members of our community of how important they are to the success of our public schools.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDDIE BAZA CALVO, I Maga’ LÃ¥hen GuÃ¥han, Governor of Guam, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Organic Act of Guam, as amended, do hereby proclaim the week of March 11 through March 17, 2013 as Guam Public Schools Week. I encourage Guamanians to rally behind our public schools and show their support for the students, faculty and staff of the Guam Department of Education as professional learning communities reform and transform our future.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby set my hand and cause the Great Seal of Guam to be affixed in the Capital City of Hagåtña on this Eleventh day of March, in the year of our Lord, Anno Domini, Two Thousand Thirteen.
