Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio issue the following statements on the simplified policy for COVID-19 booster shots:
“The people of Guam have shown overwhelming support for the COVID-19 vaccine and the protection it provides. To date, over 81% of our total population has been vaccinated, which has been a defining factor in the decline of our COVID hospital admissions, decrease in new cases reported daily, and most importantly, has saved an untold number of lives. Because we were such early adopters of the vaccine, it is critical our people get their booster shot and continue to receive the optimum protection from this deadly virus. While the initial rollout of the COVID-19 booster vaccine was limited to our manåmko’ and those with underlying conditions or those who live or work in high-risk settings, that is no longer the case. With this news, anyone 18 and older may get a booster and all those who are 50 years and older are highly encouraged to get their booster as soon as possible.”
“On Friday, we announced the beginning of a responsible and gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions for Guam. With this latest development from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we are given renewed confidence that we are on a stable path and can continue to push forward with re-opening and recovering from this multifaceted crisis,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “It has been nearly two years since this virus came into the world and changed the way we live, and moving forward we will still have to keep a cautious guard in order to keep gaining ground. Let’s ensure that our families are entering the next year protected by what we know has worked at saving lives. We encourage our people to get the booster before hurrying into holiday mode. This is a pivotal point in our journey that will undoubtedly set our course for the next year.”
