FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 31, 2012
Our island is filled with so much talent. There are many musicians, scholars, and athletes who represent Guam with pride and honor throughout the world. Today, Guamanians are standing at yet another opportunity to shine on the world stage.
Guam Olympian Benjamin Aguon Schulte is in the running to be the 2012 World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Man of the Year. Benjamin is among just 15 nominees for this award, which honors open-water swimmers who embody the spirit of open-water swimming, possess a sense of adventure, tenacity, and perseverance, and positively influence the world of open-water swimming, according to the WOWSA website. He is competing for this title with swimmers from throughout the Asia-Pacific region, as well as Great Britain, Ireland, Hong Kong, Tunisia, and Italy.
This young Guamanian is being touted as the “Fearless Olympic Marathoner” after his 2012 London Olympic experience where he competed in front of 30,000 spectators, and a worldwide television audience. Benjamin was nominated because he showed the world the Guamanian spirit of persevering and never giving up.
Benjamin is making a name, not only for himself, but for Guam. He is making Guamanians throughout the world proud, and we support him 100-percent.
We ask for the entire Guamanian community to come together and vote for Benjamin. Today is the last day to vote on the World Open Water Swimming Association website.
You can vote for Benjamin by visiting the WOWSA Man of the Year Nominees website at 2012 WOWSA Man of the Year Nominees and clicking on his name.
