$3.1M in Tax Refunds to be Paid this Week

Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration is now under 50 days in processing and paying income tax refunds. The latest batch of tax refunds totals $3,168,074, including refunds garnished to repay government debts. These represent the payment of 964 error-free returns filed on or before September 9, 2021. Since 2019, the Department of Revenue and Taxation (DRT) and the Department of Administration (DOA) have been working to ensure refunds are processed and paid on a consistent, expedient basis.

“We continue to close the gap between filing date and actual payment of tax refunds, which is now just under seven weeks–the fastest tax refunds have been paid out in two decades,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Again, we look forward to processing the upcoming tax cycle with even quicker turnaround times to provide our people what is rightfully owed to them even sooner.”

“Our commitment to improving government financials is paying off tenfold with ripple effects visible throughout government operations, including our ability to pay vendors and now our taxpayers timely,” said Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio. “We are especially proud to be able to report this progress, despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic.”
