Helping Guamanians Get Ahead
By Eddie Baza Calvo

Buenas and Hafa adai!

A lot of people are struggling. People cringe when they see their power bills. The rent is due.  You’re thinking how much is it going to cost for school uniforms for your kids. You shouldn’t have to second guess buying groceries or putting gas in your car. For every challenge in your life, there’s someone ready to help you.

We want more people to realize their Guamanian Dream. Whether getting a good education, and finding a job you love to do, or making good money to provide for your families. Whatever your goal, we’re here to help you achieve them.

Last week, Ray and I proclaimed August “Working Parents Month.” We were joined by many of our friends in the non-profit community and Cabinet members who work hard to help you realize your dreams — they’re within reach.

There are several programs that can help you go to school, or work, while knowing your children are safe at daycare. Families can realize their dreams of homeownership with grants and financing options to keep a roof over their heads. There are a number of scholarships, loans and grants to help you go to school. There are programs that can give you the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a career you love.

This month we’ll be spreading the word about these programs and more. I’m also holding the First Annual Families Fair, where government agencies, non-profit organizations and businesses will be providing information about their programs and services available. They’re joining us to reach out to you so that you can reach your dreams — that’s what we’re here to do. You work so hard as it is.  We’re here to help you along the way.

We’re all taught to lend a helping hand when it’s needed; it’s innate in our culture, it’s the spirit of our island. This is no different. We’re here to let you know that help is only a phone call, a mouse-click or a Facebook message away.

Thank you, and God Bless…
