Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio affirm their commitment to a one Micronesia stance by proclaiming September 13, 2019, as Micronesia Cleanup Day. The proclamation was signed in advance of Friday’s Micronesia-Wide Cleanup. The project is a result of Governor Leon Guerrero’s recent participation in the Micronesia Island Forum held in Chuuk. Leaders agreed to address regional issues together, including island beautification and climate change.

Their first initiative is Friday’s cleanup. Hundreds from Guam, Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia are expected to perform cleanups on their islands simultaneously. Locally, residents will focus their efforts at Tagachang Beach, Pagat Cave, Marbo Cave, and Tanguisson Beach. The cleanup is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. GovGuam employees who wish to participate will be allowed administrative leave for the duration of the cleanup.

Interested volunteers can call the Island Beautification Task Force at 475-9383/4 or visit their Facebook or Instagram.
