High School students will be sending love to Guam’s soldiers and airmen at war. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor and The Works! Foundation has partnered with Southern High School’s Close-Up Club to prepare more than 600 Guam Seal imprints to be included in Project Minagof care packages. Project Minagof works year round with private donors to put together care packages for local service members deployed overseas. Members of the 1-294th Infantry Regiment, Guam Army National Guard and the 254th Security Forces Squadron, Guam Air National Guard currently deployed in Central and Southwest Asia should expect their care packages in late November.

“Our servicemen and women are some of the most patriotic Americans. They are proud Americans and they represent our island well,” said Governor Calvo. “This project demonstrates their Guamanian Family’s continued support and gratitude for their service.”

“This is just one way for us to bring home closer to them and remind them that we are grateful for their service”, said Lieutenant Governor Tenorio. “The Governor and I thank the students for stepping forward to do this for Guam’s heroes.”

The Guam Seal imprints include notes from the students as well as family members. It is one of the first things they see when they open their packages. Sayings like “Come home safe!” and “Thank you for your service!” adorn the posters.

“We want the Guam soldiers to know that they are appreciated and thought of back home”, said Close-Up club Co-President Jesse Chargualaf.  “Many of us have relatives that were part of the 600 soldiers who left earlier this year, and we wanted to show our appreciation for their service by participating in this project.”

This is the largest shipment of packages to date. Upon completion of this shipment, Project Minagof will have shipped close to one thousand care packages to Guamanian soldiers and airmen. This shipment includes UNO Magazines from Tropical Productions, Guam brand lanyards from Guam Visitor’s Bureau, I Love Guam Stickers from Archway, Inc., cookies from Coco-Jo’s, turkey Spam from Dickerson and Quinn, sunscreen, beef jerky, and dried mango from Suncare Distributors, Guam hats from G4S Secure Solutions, Inc., Frito-Lay chips and Mauna Loa macadamia snacks from Micronesian Brokers, Inc., and Ichiban instant ramen from Analeah, Max and Siobhan Mafnas.

Project Minagof is looking to add more items to these care packages through generous donors and community partners. Guam service members have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from their Guamanian Family.
