Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio send their condolences to the family of the late Fernando Scaliem, Speaker of the Pohnpei State Legislature.

Speaker Scaliem was a very close friend to me and I will miss his friendship dearly,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “He was a staunch advocate for the protection of our environment and the people of Pacific islands. He truly served from the heart and loved his family and his people.”

Lieutenant Governor Tenorio added: “We are truly saddened by the sudden loss of Speaker Scaliem. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, Mayleen, their children and grandchildren, and will keep his family, the people of Pohnpei, and the Federated States of Micronesia in our prayers.

In addition to his role as Speaker Pohnpei State, Scaliem was also the President of the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures, a regional organization composed of lawmakers from 12 Pacific Governments.
