Invitation to the Public & the Media
Governor Eddie Baza Calvo invites all residents to the 2014 State of the Island Address.
The Address will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 6:30 p.m at the Plaza de Espana – in the heart of Hagatna.
The Address normally is held at the Guam Legislature. For the past couple of years, however, the Governor has regretted Guamanians were unable to attend the State of the Island inside the Session Hall because of the lack of space.
Governor Calvo, while respecting island dignitaries and diplomats, believes all Guamanians are ‘VIPs’ and should be able to attend the State of the Island Address in person. There is more than enough room for all at the Plaza de Espana.
The Legislature previously expended government funds to produce the annual State of the Island Address. This year NO public funding will be used in the production, with the exception of the regular broadcast aired live by PBS Guam.
The Organic Act does not require the Governor to appear before the Legislature to deliver an address, but senators and other dignitaries will be invited to attend.
