No Food or Medcine Shortage; Port Authority of Guam Remains Closed Tonight

JIC Release No. 16
July 31, 2014

The Captain of the Port declared Port Heavy Weather Condition Zulu this morning, thereby suspending operations at the Port Authority of Guam.  Normal port operations will resume once the Captain of the Port ensures that there is a safe, navigable waterway. The Harbor Master is deploying operations and maintenance crews this evening to prepare the port for normal operations as soon as possible.  An assessment of the port will be conducted at first light.

The Harbor Master does not forsee the closure of the port causing any shortage in food or medical supplies. Residents can purchase supplies at various grocery stores and retailers that include California Mart, Island Fresh, Cost-U-Less, and Pay-Less Supermarkets.
