Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration announces the recruitment of a new obstetrics and gynecology physician at the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) — improving support for women’s health and building on initiatives to increase the inventory of medical specialists on Guam. Dr. Megan Klocek, who serves as the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (USNMRTC) Guam, officially starts this Wednesday, November 9, 2022. Dr. Klocek will be working part-time when off duty.

“At every stage in a woman’s life, an OB-GYN physician can provide a wide range of services that meet her health needs, so we are committed to ensuring this standard of care is accessible to all,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Through strong inter-agency partnerships and coordination, we were able to quickly address this challenge before it could cause any gaps in healthcare services. Our Administration will continue to pursue strategic, short-term pathways and long-term solutions to achieve a sustainable healthcare system that better serves our island.”

“As a result of the Governor’s directive to address the shortage of medical specialists, we’ve been able to grow our inventory of women’s health physicians, psychology professionals, community healthcare workers, and nurses, in addition to other specialties,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “Right now, we are recruiting new pediatricians and strengthening our efforts to improve the quality of healthcare service while we work to build the Guam Medical Complex.”

Dr. Klocek earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2009, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in 2013, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Magee Women’s Hospital in 2017. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
