Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration announces the appointment of Michael D. Weakley as Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA), effective this week. 

“Guam’s young people will play an important role in our island’s recovery, and we need invested leaders like Deputy Director Weakley to help our youth secure their future,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Deputy Director Weakley’s professional experience in public policy, people and program management, and student services will elevate the critical services provided by DYA. The intersection of his unique experience will help DYA promote youth development, strengthen the family unit, and ensure that our youth are provided with both appropriate treatment and opportunities, especially as a former legislative staffer for the Committee on Judiciary and Criminal Justice and the Committee on Education. ”

“As a community leader, the depth of his dedication not only to our young people but to our entire community is proven through his leadership in the  Inalahan Municipal Planning Council, various humanitarian, civic, and sports organizations, and volunteer initiatives,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “Among the many transformative opportunities available through DYA is the Summer Youth Employment Program, which our administration revived to bring our young people quality work experiences that they can build on throughout their careers. Deputy Director Weakley will help lead the success of this visionary program’s second series this summer, and we are confident in his ability to reach our youth where they need us most.”
