Hagåtña — Lights and other infrastructure will be retrofitted at Southern High School and George Washington High School as part of an energy-savings program.
The Guam Power Authority, working with the Guam Department of Education, submitted a grant to help reduce energy costs in our public schools.
The Southern High project will receive $954,685 – the lion’s share of the $1.25 million grant provided through the Office of Insular Affairs’ Energizing Insular Communities Program. The George Washington High project will receive $295,315.
Acting Governor Ray Tenorio thanked GPA and Guam DOE for working together to reduce our island’s carbon footprint while also finding ways to reduce costs.
“It is critical that we work together to find solutions as we strive to find ways to make our government more efficient. Governor Calvo and I thank GPA and DOE for their efforts in this regard,” Tenorio stated.
