A man serving time at the Department of Corrections for criminal sexual conduct will be transferred into the custody of U.S. Immigrations for deportation.
Rodolo Moon Sangalang, also known as Roldolfo Jr., was sentenced to 10 years in prison for second-degree criminal sexual conduct as a first-degree felony.
A citizen of the Republic of Palau, Sangalang was scheduled to be released in 2021. Sangalang was identified by U.S. immigrations officials as having committed a deportable crime and was flagged with a federal detainer.
To date, the Governor has commuted the sentences of 21 criminals through the initiative to make Guam’s streets safer for residents. The first 5 were voluntary removals. The other 16 were commuted and transferred into the custody of our federal partners for deportation.
It costs an average of $119 a day or about $43,435 a year to house each inmate and detainee at the Department of Corrections. The federal government takes on these costs when custody is transferred. With the 21 commutations that allowed for the voluntary removal or the deportation of criminals, the total savings for the government is approximately $1.6 million.
