“We are hiring more police officers to provide a stronger presence of law enforcement. We’re taking back our streets and sending a clear message to criminals.” — Governor Eddie Baza Calvo

Strengthening police presence; deter and combat crime
Governor Calvo is making good on his promise to hire more police and safety officers as stated in his 2014 State of the Island Address.
Over $723K in federal grant funding was recently awarded to the Guam Police Department to hire five full time police officers. The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services awarded the grant through its COPS Hiring Program. The funding will be used directly by GPD to hire or rehire police officers.
Governor Calvo is confident  the increase in law enforcement will not only ensure public safety in our communities, but deter future crime as well.
Hiring update
In fiscal year 2013 alone, the Calvo administration has hired 82 public safety officers and other professionals. This year we will be hiring up to 100 police and corrections officers.
Governor Calvo’s fiscal team made sure to include enough funding in the Fiscal Year 2015 budget to hire more of these officers.
