“This is our only hospital for our people, we gotta do more.” – Dr. Larry Lizama, former GMH medical director.

As the former hospital medical director, Dr. Lizama has seen firsthand GMH’s struggles, from its deteriorating facilities to lack of equipment. Yet lawmakers have ignored these issues, failing to dedicate funding for the island’s only public hospital.

GMH’s lack of modernization has made it hard to retain the medical professionals the people of Guam need and deserve.

“Give us the opportunity … to provide for the best patient outcome. Give us the opportunity to recruit [quality health care professionals],” Dr. Lizama said.  “[Recruited] physicians look at us as a third world country or an underserved community because of our lack of hospital resources. Bring back the sons and daughters of Guam who have been trained in specialized areas.”
