Hagåtña – Governor Calvo asks for Vice Chairwoman Terlaje’s leadership in moving Eric Palacios’s nomination forward as Director of the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency.

“As the Vice Chairwoman of the Committee on Housing, Utilities, Public Safety, and Homeland Security, I call upon your leadership to move Acting Director Palacios’s nomination out of your committee and to allow for the members of I Liheslatura to vote,” stated Governor Eddie Calvo in a letter sent to the Vice Chairwoman.

The Governor also pointed out a few accomplishments during the Acting Director’s tenure with the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency (CQA), one of them was saving $300,000 dollars in grant monies from being lost and directing them towards a boathouse for the agency. “Yet, despite these accomplishments and agency visitation opportunities — Senator Nelson has made it public knowledge that she has a personal issue with the Agency’s Acting Director and has no intention of moving forward with his nomination.”

During recent confirmation hearings held by Vice Speaker Terlaje under her Committee, Senator Terlaje committed to moving forward with the confirmation process, Governor Calvo is only asking for parity with respect to Mr. Palacios’s nomination.
